Paul Nguyen, MHA
Chief Executive Officer
Paul Nguyen is the President and CEO for CommuniCare Health Centers. He has over 20 years of progressive healthcare leadership experience in both inpatient and ambulatory services. Mr. Nguyen's healthcare administration background includes working in two level I trauma centers at Wilford Hall Medical Center in San Antonio, TX and Oregon Health & Science University Hospital in Portland, OR where he was an administrator for several ambulatory care centers. He also worked with critical access hospitals in rural Wyoming and Montana where he designed and initiated various strategies in operation efficiency and emergency preparedness. Paul Nguyen has a Bachelor's Degree in Social Psychology from Park University and a Master's Degree in Healthcare Administration from Webster University.
Martha A. Medrano, M.D., M.P.H.
Chief Clinical Officer and Behavioral Health Director
Dr. Martha A. Medrano received her doctorate of medicine degree from the University of Texas Health Science Center in San Antonio (UTHSCSA). She joined CommuniCare in February 2010, becoming the Chief Clinical Officer and Behavioral Health Director. Dr. Medrano is a child, adult and addiction psychiatrist who brings 24 years of experience as an administrator and clinician educator. Some of her recognitions include Hispanic Business Magazine's 100 Top Influential Hispanics, San Antonio Women's Hall of Fame and San Antonio Magazine's Influential Physicians: Women Who Are Making a Difference.
Chief Financial Officer
Mr. Gonzalez has worked in the financial field for over 18 years. He has been with CommuniCare since 2000, and became the Chief Financial Officer in 2002. Prior to being named CFO, Mr. Gonzalez served as the Manager of Financial Operations. Before joining CommuniCare, he was a financial analyst for the Center for Health Care Services, and an Accountant for two home health care agencies and a university. He is a 1992 graduate of St. Mary's University earning a Bachelors of Business Administration with a concentration in Accounting.
Chief Operations Officer
Angel Nunez is the Chief Operations Officer for CommuniCare Health Centers. He has over 25 years of healthcare leadership experience in medical training, education and inpatient/outpatient patient care. Prior to his assignment as COO, Angel functioned as the Quality and Health Information Manager for the organization. Angel's healthcare administration background includes working at Wilford Hall Medical Center in San Antonio, TX where he managed several specialty clinics, inpatient units, and surgical departments. Angel has a Bachelor's Degree in Healthcare Administration with a concentration in Management from Park University.
Violetta Roller, D.D.S.
Chief Dental Officer
Dr. Roller is originally from the small town of Carrizo Springs, Texas. She graduated from The University of Texas at San Antonio with a B.S. in Biology, and later from the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio, as a Doctor of Dental Surgery. She joined CommuniCare in 2005 as a staff dentist, became Associate Dental Director in 2007 and Chief Dental Officer in 2010. Dr. Roller was recognized by Top Dentist, LLC (National independent surveying organization) as one of the top dentist in San Antonio in 2012; she is among 174 dental providers in San Antonio that made the Top Dentist list.
Quiara Sherrard, MBA
Chief Revenue Officer
Ms. Sherrard joined CommuniCare in June 2011. Her responsibilities include oversight of billing, collections, contracting and credentialing. Prior to this position, she has served as Practice Administrator for Oncology San Antonio and San Antonio Infectious Diseases Consultants. She has 13 years of experience in healthcare leadership and revenue management. Quiara has a Bachelor's Degree in Finance and a Masters of Business Administration with a dual concentration in Healthcare Management and Finance from Park University.
Chief Information Officer
Mr. Suarez has 17 years of experience working in community health centers, including 12 years at CommuniCare. He has served in many roles including: front office operations, insurance billing office manager, and has implemented several patient management systems. He has nine years of experience in Information Technology, with significant expertise in statistics/data management, networking and Voice Over IP. He became the CommuniCare CIO in 2002.
Chief Development Officer
Marisol Cortez joined CommuniCare in August 2010. Her responsibilities include oversight of grant writing, fundraising, marketing, public & community relations and building partner relationships. Mari has over 20 years of experience in working with non-profits within the field of accounting, marketing and fundraising. Her background includes being the Development Director for the American Lung association, owning her own marketing and web consulting business and working as a Fiscal Officer for the City of San Antonio. Mari has a Bachelor's Degree in Accounting with a concentration in Marketing from St. Mary's University.
Miguel A. Vazquez, MD, FAAFP
Chief Medical Officer
Dr. Miguel A. Vazquez is a native San Antonian and graduated from Trinity University. He then completed his medical education at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, TX, and finished his specialty training in Family Medicine at the University of Texas Medical Branch, Galveston, Texas. Dr. Vazquez was in private practice for 18 years, followed by group and consultative practice which included preventive medicine for the San Antonio Fire Department. He has served as medical director and chief medical officer for a Medicaid managed care organization and for several companies as part of their workers' compensation programs.
Rosemarie Ramos, PhD, MPH
Chief Research Officer
Dr. Rosemarie G. Ramos' expertise includes chronic disease epidemiology, health informatics, and health disparities research. Dr. Ramos earned her Doctorate and Master of Public Health at the University of Pittsburgh's Graduate School of Public Health. Prior to joining CommuniCare, Dr. Ramos served as a Health Disparities Research Scholar at the National Institutes of Health and as a public health project advisor for Metro Health in support of the San Antonio A1C (Diabetes) Registry. More recently, Dr. Ramos held the position of Senior Scientist and Research Investigator at Wilford Hall Ambulatory Medical Center in San Antonio.
