University Health System is Bexar County and South Texas' first and only health system to earn Magnet status. Komen San Antonio Affiliate Established in 1997, Komen San Antonio has invested more than $14 million in our community. Methodist Healthcare Ministries (MHM) is a private, faith-based, nonprofit organization dedicated to providing medical and health-related human services to low-income families and the uninsured in South Texas.

The first Sisters of Charity of the Incarnate Word, three young French women motivated by the love of God and their recognition of God's presence in each person, came to San Antonio in 1869 to minister to the sick and the poor.
