President and Chief Executive Officer

Paul Nguyen is the President and CEO of CommuniCare Health Centers. His career as a healthcare executive spans over 25 years in both inpatient and ambulatory services, with a focus on being the healthcare provider of choice and best place to work. He is a recipient of the 2015 San Antonio Business Journal Healthcare Heroes Award in the category of Outstanding Healthcare Executive.  In 2020, Paul was inducted into the Marquis Who’s Who of America for the recognition of his noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in the primary care and community health industries.  Paul Nguyen has a Bachelor’s Degree in Social Psychology from Park University and a Master’s Degree in Healthcare Administration from Webster University. 

Vice President and Chief Financial Officer        
 
Mr. Gonzalez has worked in the financial field for over 30 years. He has been with CommuniCare since 2000, and became the Chief Financial Officer in 2002. Prior to being named CFO, Mr. Gonzalez served as the Manager of Financial Operations. Before joining CommuniCare, he was a financial analyst for the Center for Health Care Services, and an Accountant for two home health care agencies and a university. He is a 1992 graduate of St. Mary’s University earning a Bachelors of Business Administration with a concentration in Accounting.
 

Vice President and Chief Operations Officer        
 
Ms. Sherrard has over 15 years of experience in healthcare leadership and revenue cycle management. Prior to joining CommuniCare, she served as Practice Administrator for Oncology San Antonio and San Antonio Infectious Diseases Consultants. She is a recipient of the 2015 San Antonio Business Journal C-Suite Award recognized for Outstanding Executive leadership. Quiara has a Bachelor’s Degree in Finance and a Masters of Business Administration with a dual concentration in Healthcare Management and Finance from Park University.
 

Vice President and Chief Clinical Officer        
 
Dr. Carlos E. Moreno is an accomplished bilingual professional with over 27 years’ experience in the fields biomedical research development, academia and healthcare administration. Collective Impact work of communities is an area of great interest to him and has utilized efforts as liaison with state, county and city government elected officials as well as state representatives in addressing health disparities of communities. He received his doctorate degree in medicine and surgery from the Medical school in the Dominican Republic and a Master of Business Administration degree from the University of Texas at San Antonio.
 

Vice President and Chief Performance and Innovation Officer        
 
C. Sean Adams has over 20 years of experience as an innovative and driven professional in healthcare finance. Sean works to identify and implement original business solutions, improve process and efficiency, and deliver insightful business intelligence with a focus on performance improvement. Sean’s work experience includes executive leadership and financial auditor for healthcare organizations throughout the United States. Sean holds Bachelor Degrees in both Finance and Accounting and is Certified Public Accountant licensed in Texas.
 

Vice President and Chief Scientific Officer
 

Dr. Fred Poordad has been honored by US News and World Report as one of the top 1% of physicians in his field and serves on many scientific advisory boards. He is internationally recognized for his work in liver disease research. Dr. Poordad serves or has served on educational committees for the American Association for the Study of Liver Disease, the American Society of Transplantation, and the American College of Gastroenterology. He is on the editorial board of several journals and is a regular peer reviewer for multiple journals.  Dr. Poordad is the recipient of the 2020 San Antonio Business Journal Healthcare Heroes Award in the category of Outstanding Medical Researcher.  He received his doctorate degree in medicine from University of Alberta in Edmonton, Canada.

General Counsel        
 
Michael Hernandez is a San Antonio native who began his professional career in New York and California before returning to central Texas. He has over 20 years of experience in the legal profession, focusing extensively on healthcare over the last decade. Michael holds a Bachelor of Architecture degree from the University of Texas at Austin, his Master of Architecture from the University of California – Berkeley, and his Doctor of Jurisprudence from St. Mary’s Law School.
 

Chief Dental Officer        
 
Dr. Roller is originally from the small town of Carrizo Springs, Texas. She graduated from The University of Texas at San Antonio with a B.S. in Biology, and later from the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio, as a Doctor of Dental Surgery. She joined CommuniCare in 2005 as a staff dentist and became Chief Dental Officer in 2010. Dr. Roller is the recipient of the Top Dentist Award for 2012 and 2016. She is featured in Texas MD Monthly Magazine as one of the Top Dentist in the Southwest Texas Region.
 

Chief Strategic Officer        
 
Bob Milks is originally from New York, but has called Texas his home for the past 14 years. He joined CommuniCare in 2009 to lead its service expansion into Hays County. He has over 30 years of experience in organizational development and change management. He considered himself as an entrepreneur leader, challenged to be innovative in new business ideas and further refine internal processes to improve operational efficiency. Bob Milks has a Bachelor’s of Science in Occupational Education and a Master of Arts in Management from Wayland Baptist University.
 

Chief Marketing & Advancement Officer        
 
Marisol Cortez joined CommuniCare in August 2010. Her responsibilities include oversight of grant writing, fundraising, marketing, public & community relations and building partner relationships. Mari has over 20 years of experience in working with non-profits within the field of accounting, marketing and fundraising. Her background includes being the Development Director for the American Lung association, owning her own marketing and web consulting business and working as a Fiscal Officer for the City of San Antonio. Mari has a Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting with a concentration in Marketing from St. Mary’s University.
