How do I schedule an appointment?

I am a first-time patient with private insurance or Medicaid
If you are insured by private insurance or Medicaid, please arrive 15 minutes before your appointment with the necessary paperwork (see below) and check-in using our kiosks at the entrance of our clinics or the check-in desk.

I am a first-time patient without insurance
If this is your first visit and you do not have insurance, you will need to come in prior to your appointment and meet with a Member Service Representative (MSR) who will see if you can qualify for a discount program. The MSR will then make an appointment for you using the sliding fee scale.

How long is my appointment?
The length of your appointment depends on your condition, the time of day, and the doctor you are seeing. Please expect your initial appointment to be between 1-2 hours.

Accepting Both Private, Medicaid/CHIP, and Medicare Advantage Plans.
Our CommuniCare Health Centers San Marcos, TX location offers a wide range of both private and public insurance plans. Patients who do not have any type of coverage can also apply for our discount program for affordable care. Please review all required documentation for your first appointment.

Patients with Private Insurance.
If you have private health insurance and visiting our San Marcos, TX location, you will need to bring your insurance card (or letter confirming coverage) and picture ID. Call 210-233-7000 for more information.

Patients with Medicaid, CHIP, or Medicare.
Parents of children with Medicaid and CHIP will need to provide a valid picture ID and the child’s Medicaid/CHIP card. If they wish to take advantage of services not covered by their plan, they can apply for our “discount program.”

Patients who Self-Pay.
If you wish to become a patient in our San Marcos, TX location and do not have health insurance coverage, you must first visit with a Member Services Representative who can assist you with the process of applying for a discount program or booking an appointment.

Discount Program
To qualify for our discount program in our San Marcos, TX clinic, or any other location, you must have a total family income that is less than 200% of the Federal Poverty Income Guidelines. You can visit communicaresa.org/become-a-patient/ for guidelines.
